No one knows where life’s path will lead, but following the call of the heart, you can definitely get to the right place and the right people.
Frenchman Tom Di Nunzio lived in London with his girlfriend before coming to Ukraine. Later, the girl got a job in the humanitarian sector, and they moved to Kramatorsk together. They lived in the Donetsk region until the full-scale war forced them to move to Kyiv.
In the UK, Tom worked in the IT sector. He is currently on a break from work, so he uses his free time for good deeds. The man has already joined the victims four times in the ranks of the Kyiv battalion “Dobrobat”. He says that he previously participated in various construction projects with his family and friends, so although he is not a professional, he still had experience in reconstruction. At locations in the Kyiv region, Tom is gaining experience in dismantling damaged roofs and restoring them, because he usually gets along well with roofing volunteers. He also went to clear rubble to eliminate the consequences of the destruction.
“I am very impressed by how warmly the people we help greet us. They really appreciate the support they receive and usually show their gratitude. In particular, by offering more food than we can eat,” says the volunteer.
Tom was received very warmly at Dobrobat. The volunteer says that it was a bit unusual for others to see a Frenchman at the reconstruction, but at the same time, everyone was always friendly. And although sometimes it is difficult to communicate due to the language barrier, this does not prevent us from pursuing a common goal. After all, everyone, by making an effort and helping, changes the lives of the affected people.
“I am very inspired by other Dobrobat volunteers. There is a strong core of people who unite to complete each task and do their best day after day. This is a great way to contribute to the reconstruction of the country during and after the war. Volunteers can do a lot, and Dobrobat is proof of this,” says Tom.
